Canada Study Permit 2026: Application Process & Approval Timeline

What is a Canada Study Permit?

A study permit authorizes foreign nationals to study at designated learning institutions (DLIs) in Canada for programs longer than six months.

Key Facts

  • Valid for program duration plus 90 days
  • Must be obtained before entering Canada
  • Allows part-time work (24 hours/week)
  • Supports a PGWP application after completion — degree graduates qualify freely, non-degree graduates must be in an eligible field of study, and a language test (CLB 7 university / CLB 5 college) is required for everyone
